Group Benefits Bulletin

Billing Deadline

All changes need to be in place in order to make the billing cycle. Updates filed after the 21st of each month will show on the following month’s billing. For New Addition, Changes, and Terminations, we would prefer a scanned and emailed copy to GroupBenefits@ara.bc.ca.  We still need the originally signed enrollment and change forms, so please mail these to the ARA office as normal.

Increase in 2023 EI Maximum Insurance Earnings

The federal government announced the 2023 EI rates and maximums.

New rates effective January 1, 2023
Maximum insurance earnings Maximum EI benefit
$61,500 $650

This increase affects Short-Term Disability (STD) plans where:

  • the maximum STD benefit reflects the EI maximum weekly benefit ($650 for 2023),

or

  • the EI maximum earnings amount ($61,500 for 2023) is used to work out the STD benefit amount

The ARA has updated its system so that the STD claim payments reflect the increase in EI maximum.  If your contract is based on current allowable EI insurable earnings, you do not need a contract amendment.  These updates become effective January 1, 2023, and are reflected in your January billing.

Most Weekly Indemnity plans qualify for EI Premium Reductions.  This means that premiums paid for EI contributions can be reduced depending on your category.  For further information regarding the EI premium reduction, please contact Service Canada Centre at 1-800-622-6232.
